Goldfish Memory

A quickly paced, quick-witted, completely engaging romp that takes every kind of love affair, tosses them all in a blender, and then examines the results. Goldfish Memory is a light-hearted look at the dangers and delights of dating in contemporary Dublin. A group of lively twentysomethings strive to find the perfect relationship over and over again, some with less-than-desired results. Modern Dublin throws up moral dilemmas aplenty for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and confirmed straights alike. Tom is a university professor who is dating Clara, who is exploiting her bisexual side with Isolde, who is moving through one lover to the next. Then there is the adorable Red who lusts after straight David—but they’re just friends . . . for now.

Adding to this already delightful cast are many more lonely hearts with hook-ups, break-ups, and more hook-ups. Some of the characters seem powerless to learn from experience, like a goldfish with a memory of three seconds constantly making the same mistakes in relationships. But we guarantee that when this sexual merry-go-round finally comes to a stop, you’ll leave the theatre feeling as if everything is all right with the world—and you’ll feel that way a lot longer than three seconds.
