In Good Conscience: Sister Jeannine Gramick’s
Journey of Faith
For over three decades, Sister Jeannine Gramick, in the name of God, has taken on rabid protesters, public scrutiny, and the Roman Catholic Church on behalf of gays and lesbians. This documentary explores the work of this deeply devout and socially committed nun as she follows her own path through this religious minefield. Defying a direct order from the Vatican, Sister Gramick continues her crusade for equality within the constraints of the most powerful church in the world.
The film follows Sister Gramick on her journey to Rome to deliver a copy of her book, Building Bridges, newly translated into Italian, to the Cardinal who handed her the silence order. She also dissects the Catholic priest sex abuse scandal with fanatics and continues to convey her conviction that the essence of the Catholic faith is that of love, not hatred. Sister Gramick’s perseverance and dedication to her cause will not fail to win you over to her struggle and the sense of relief when she finds a place of acceptance in the Loretto Convent is palpable.
